Southwest Vacation Feb23 - Death Valley NP
Dante's View

Heading west across the Mojave Desert to Death Valley National Park.  We didn't have far to go -- maybe 15 miles -- that's a short drive in the west.

We made it!  This is the east entrance on Highway 190.

Only a mile or two into the park we turned south for a 13 mile drive up the mountain to Dantes View.

And what a view!  We are about 5,500 feet above the Death Valley floor.

Looking across Death Valley at the snow-covered Panamint Range.

We are on the Margosa Range.

We didnt realize it at the time but the area at lower right is Badwater Basin, lowest elevation in North America at 282 feet below sea level.  We would visit it later in the day and walk out to that large circular salt flat.

Pretty good way to start our visit to Death Valley.

We went on a short hike north along the ridge.

Lynnette contemplates Death Valley.

Looking back at the parking lot.

A better look of the parking area.  It was filled, as were most of the other attractions, but we would be lucky all day with finding a parking spot.

If you are ever in Death Valley National Park, you definately want to visit Dante's View.
